Unexpected Present

This weekend has been uneventful. I mean really uneventful. I basically turned into a couch potato. I feel so restless and cooped out. I hate the feeling that I can't go out and do anything that will have any productive results. I spent the weekend chatting with friends back home (and Megan in Japan), watching movies (How to Train Your Dragon is adorable), doing homework (wrote two papers - yay me!), browsing the internet (Stumble Upon is addicting), and reading books. I hate to say it but I really have checked out of this whole study abroad dealio. I am ready to be home and restart my life. I feel like everything is on pause right now. I mean I've had a good experience here and I've learned a lot about myself, but I am ready to move onto the next chapter of my life.

Anyway, this evening I was feeling extra restless and a bit irritated with myself  because I did not do anything academic today. Then I opened the door to go take a shower and a present dropped on the floor! Nothing improves a crappy day like a surprise. A girl in the other hall on my floor had left it for me. Her name is Angel. She's a student from Mainland and she was a leader in my New Student Orientation group back in August. I haven't seen her much this semester and when ever I did see her, we just said hi in passing. This week I ran into her twice and had some actual conversations with her. I saw her tonight while I was washing my dishes and she was filling her water pitcher (side note: it seems that most of the girls on my floor all get water from the water boiler... that water is scalding hot! how can they drink it...). We chatted a bit and I asked how her study abroad interview went. She had told me earlier this week that she is applying to study abroad in the US for next year's fall semester. So needless to say, I was shocked to receive a present from her because we've barely talked all semester. She wrote me an extremely sweet letter and gave me some Chinese tea and a pretty fan with plum blossoms on it. Such a nice surprise! I am going to write her a thank you note back and slip it under her door tomorrow.

I have less than two weeks left in Hong Kong. This week will be a busy week because lots of things are due and I have my Chinese final exam. I'm especially nervous for that because it's so easy to make little careless mistakes on foreign language exams.
