October 31st

After eating breakfast and checking out, we crammed into a taxi with our suitcases and the wheelchair. It was a tight fit.

We took the taxi to the train station and then were whizzed through immigration because of my grandmother in her chair. We got on the train and then had to figure out how to get my grandmother to our seats because the wheelchair couldn't fit through the aisle. She devised a system and got there. Meanwhile as my mom was trying to get the wheelchair on the train, she dropped two books onto the tracks. We thought they were lost but just as the train was departing one of the workers on the train brought the books to us. I thought that was very nice of her and the books were still in good shape, just a bit banged up. I taught Grandmother how to play Spit on the train ride. It was very funny and she kept trying to cheat!

We got back to Hung Hom in Hong Kong, passed through immigration, and then took the MTR to my school. We had to walk with the suitcase and my grandmother in a wheelchair back to my school. I never realized just how inaccessible the entrance to my school is until we didn't have a way to get my grandmother through it. So I had to push her all the way around the road and up a huge, never ending hill to my hostel. Let's just say I got my exercise for the week.

Mom and Grandmother reorganized their suitcases. Once that was done I tried to figure out how to call a taxi. I tried asking the security guards in my hostel to help me, but they didn't speak ANY English. The only word they understood was "taxi" so they gave me the number for the taxi place. Anyway, after a lot of confusion, the taxi eventually arrived. Luckily taxis in Hong Kong are much bigger than in Guangzhou so we were able to fit three suitcases, the wheelchair, and all three of us plus the driver into the taxi. We drove about 40 minutes to the Marriot Skycity Hotel near the airport.
It was SUCH a nice hotel. 5 stars. It was beautiful and the room was facing the ocean so we got to watch the ferries depart to go to Hong Kong (the airport is on a different island). We ate a delicious dinner at the hotel restaurant. Mom fell in love with their buffet and we all ate a lot.

After digesting a bit, Mom and I headed to the pool. It was very nice, but she thought it was too cold so she went to use the sauna and then we both soaked in the jacuzzi for a bit.

We rejoined Grandmother in our room and played Hearts. This time Grandmother won! But only because Mom got completely screwed on the last round. And it's not like she lost... She came in second and I lost.
