Yesterday I took bus E33 to the airport and met Megan at the arrival gate in Hall B. It was so exciting to see a familiar face, though a little bizzarre that she's actually in Hong Kong. We grabbed a bite to eat at the Burger King in the terminal and then walked out to take bus A21 to Tsim Sha Tsui where she was stayed. We had no problem getting off at the right stop because tourist friendly English signs in the bus.
Right as we got off these Indian men bombarded us, asking if we were going to Chung King Mansions. Although we were, we ignored them. We walked like 30 seconds and then found Chung King Mansions (a sketchy place where a whole bunch of hostels are located). There were lots of African and Indian milling about trying to talk to people on the street. There was also a lot of police on the ground floor just keeping an eye on things. We found the elevator we needed to take to go up to her hostel (Ashoka Hostel) on the 13th floor.
When we got up there, we discovered it is a hostel run by an Indian family. An old man with a turban (sorry I do not know the right word) on his head helped Megan sign in and then took us back down to the ground floor and over to another elevator to go to her room. On our way to the other elevator, he offered to buy us a beer. We were both a bit sketched out and were like "no thanks!" He kept talking to us as he took us up and we both had absolutely no clue what he was saying because of his accent. We found her room and it was actually pretty clean. It's small with two beds, a fan, a small tv, an AC unit and a tiny bathroom/shower closet (I'm pretty sure she'll have to take a shower while sitting on the closed toilet... that's how small it is). The Indian man said that I could come sleep there anytime I want so I might go stay with Megan on Friday and Saturday nights. We'll see.
We dropped off her things and then walked out into the city to try and find the closest MTR station. We found East Tsim Sha Tsui station and then we walked on to go to the Avenue of Stars. It was not as crowded as it has been the last few times I've been there because we were there at around 11 o'clock at night. We meandered along there and then walked back to East TST station. We actually walked down into the station so I could show her the way to go when she comes to meet me this morning. Then I walked her to the crosswalk right across from where she's staying and I headed back to Lingnan for the night.
Now I have ten minutes to get dressed and I have to walk to the closest MTR station (Siu Hong) so I can meet Megan. I will try and update later tonight about our day today and load some pictures if I have time!
