The end of this week was very relaxing. Since I only had one class on Thursday and no classes on Friday, I didn't really do much. I attempted to get some homework, but wasn't very successful. The internet is just way too distracting... hehe. Though my procrastination in a way was productive because I found out where there is an international grocery store nearby (this is a helpful resource for English speakers coming to Hong Kong: http://hongkong.angloinfo.com) and also began planning my trip to Tokyo (which I am hoping will happen sooner rather than later.. I just need to talk to Megan about it if she ever logs onto Skype!!).
Today I went with Sophie and two other Korean girls from her university in Korea (Julie and Yoon) to Mongkok to go shopping. I managed to restrain myself and only bought something I needed (jeans) and one thing I didn't need (a necklace). Once we got to Mongkok and before we went shopping, we had to fill our stomachs. We decided to eat at Pizza Hut, which, if you can believe it, was not my decision! They all decided they wanted pizza and of course I was happy to go along with the plan. After taking the red minibus back to school, I went back to my room and talking to my parents on Skype for a while. My mom and grandmother are coming to visit me for 10 days in 33 days! I am so excited to see them! :-) I need to start planning what we are going to do during those 10 days. Everyone went out tonight to go clubbing, but I decided to be practical not go because I have a full day planned tomorrow and need to get up early. :-( I will definitely go next weekend!
For those who are interested, there are five modes of transportation in Hong Kong (that I know of). If you come to Hong Kong, definitely invest in an Octopus card. You can use it for most modes of transportation and you can even use it in convenient stores, some grocery stores, and some fast food places.
1) the MTR - the subway, Octopus card
2) the lightrail - a mini-subway/trolley type thing that takes you around part of the New Territories, Octopus card
3) taxis - red = Central, green = New Territories, blue = Lantau Island => i don't know if you can use Octopus card in the taxis...
4) the bus - self explanatory, Octopus card
5) minibuses - two kinds: green ($4 HKD, Octopus card accepted, set stops) and red ($18 HKD, runs from point A to point B, can request stops along the way, need to know how to say where you want to get off in Canto, drives very fast).
Of course I forgot to bring my camera today so here is a picture of me and my dog Scout (who I miss very much!)
