A Day Out

Today I went out with Jess, the sister of a guy (Frank) I worked with summer 2009. I had never met her before, but it seems that when Frank told her I was coming to Hong Kong, she offered to take me out one day. So she picked me up this morning at 11 (I almost got in the wrong side of the car because they drive on the other side of the road so the steering wheel is on the other side of the car) and we drove alllll the way to other other side of the New Territories to Sai Kung. The town was next to the sea and a lot of people go there on Sunday with their dogs. People also take boat trips around the collection of islands on the coast and Jess told me people even go scuba diving. We ate lunch at a cute Italian restaurant on that was open to the street and served huge portions. We shared caeser salad and spaghetti alfredo - together we couldn't even finish all the food! We walked off our meals by strolling along the boardwalk/sidewalk next to the sea and looking at all the seafood restaurants that displayed their catches on the sidewalks. Sai Kung is very famous for it's seafood.

We left Sai Kung and stopped at a mall where there was an Alzheimer's Association convention (I think) and Jess wanted to stay hi to people there. While at the mall, I investigated the prices of the new Ipod Touch and discovered they were sold for about the same price at every store I asked (2288 HKD for 32 gig 4G Touch).

We dropped Jess' car at her apartment and took a quick rest there. She lived on the 29th floor and from her apartment building you can usually see Victoria Harbor. However, today was very very hot and hazy so the buildings around the Harbor were just faint outlines.

Notice there is no number 4, 14, or 24.. the word for 4 in Cantonese sounds like the word for "death"

Can kind of see the outlines of buildings.. that's Victoria

We took the MTR to Tsim Sha Tsui and walked to the Hong Kong Art Museum. It closed at 6 and it was 5:15, so it was decided that it wasn't worth the rush. We walked around some and then ate an early dinner at a Chinese restaurant and then had some chocolate dessert at Starbucks.  Thank you Jess for a really fun day :-)
