This morning we went to Ping Shan Heritage Trail. Ping Shan is an old village in the New Territories that was founded by the Tang Clan. We went up to the old Ping Shan Police Station that has been renovated and turned into a museum. It was very nice and well organized.
Then we wandered into the town in search of the trail. It was not the most exciting thing ever, but we saw lots of local people and got a glimpse of the lifestyle they live. Let me just say, I really appreciate the sewer system in Maryland. It was a neat experience to go to the different parts of the heritage trail and it is one of the few spots in Hong Kong that has preserved some aspect of village life.
I headed back to school to grab a quick sandwich and went to take my Hong Kong Popular Culture midterm. It was open note and I had no idea what to expect. Turns out it wasn't that hard and the essay question was not something I could have studied for because it was very analytical. I hope that the professor understand what I wrote and that I expressed my train of though clear enough so that my conclusion makes sense. I guess we'll see. I have no idea how hard he grades and what he expected for each answer. I'm a bit nervous because the grading system here is weird....
After the exam, I met Mom and Grandmother at the Tin Shui Wai MTR station and we headed to Austin where we went to Temple St. Night Market. We got there just as it was opening and I am so glad we got there then because by the time we left it was getting rather crowded. There are so many people there trying to sell you the same thing and bargaining is not one of my favorite things so markets always seem so overwhelming to me.
Shopping exhausted us so we headed back to the hotel. Along the way, Grandmother expressed a desire for a chocolate milkshake from McDonalds. Mom and I went to the one near hotel and picked up dinner. We also stopped at 7Eleven to grab some more snacks and drinks. Then we ate and played cards. McDonalds has never tasted so delicious.
I took a taxi back to school and I have been doing laundry (for myself and Mom), researching Guangzhou, updating this, and studying for my quiz tomorrow. It is almost 2 am, I'm exhausted, and I have a quiz in Chinese at 9 am. Bedtime!
Love to all!!!
I really like the picture of the flowers with the wall in the background :)
