Today, Trace and I headed to Sha Tin Racetracks to see the Sasa Ladies Purse Day race, one of the most traditional races in Hong Kong that has been running annually since 1946. The horses run a distance of 1800 m and the winner is presented with a gold coin in a wallet.
We both got free horse pins when we paid our small entrance fee of 10 HK dollars. Then we voted on who we thought would win the next race. We both voted for Number 3, Dancing King. Then we decided to try our hand at betting. We bet that numbers 3, 5, and 10 would place and we bet 10 HK dollars for each of those horses. Then we headed back out to the stands to watch the race. It was soooo cool! The horses were absolutely gorgeous.

Only one of our horses, number 10, placed. He came in second. A horse named Ambitious Dragon won. So we went to collect what we knew would be a small sum of money. Turns out we got 31 HK dollars back, which means that we each made a profit of 1 HK dollar! I am keeping that coin as my lucky coin :-).
We walked around a bit and took some pictures. There was a place where you could take a picture with a Shetland pony, but by the time we got there they had closed. I wasn't that disappointed since I've pet my share of Shetlands before, but I do wish Trace had a chance to pet one. They are so cute!

After our racing experience, we headed to New Town Plaza, a giant shopping mall in Sha Tin. We wondered around for a bit but all the stores in there were a bit pricey. We ate dinner at a pizza place called Shakeys. We had chicken caeser pizza - long pizza. It was delicious. Then, exhausted, we called it a day and headed back to Lingnan.

The rest of this weekend was pretty uneventful. I did some planning, homework, reading. Trace bought us breakfast from McDonalds and some delicious cakes yesterday. She's so sweet :-) I also did laundry.
I have a busy week ahead of me. Lots of schoolwork to finish before my mom and grandmother come on Thursday afternoon! I'm so excited to see them.
