October 23rd

After running late, I met up with Grandmother and Mom at their hotel on Saturday morning and together we headed into the city. We decided to go up to the Peak. While waiting in line to get on the Peak Tram, Mom and Grandmother made friends with a couple from Australia. I should have expected it for they are two of the most social people I know.

Already Made New Friends

The view up at the Peak was not the best I've seen because it was a bit hazy. It was not that bad and was defintiely worth it.

We went to a very nice restaurant called Cafe Deco where we ate delicious food next to huge windows overlooking a great view of Victoria Harbor.

Same one I ate at in Japan!
We scarfed down some gelato for dessert and took the Peak Tram back down to the bottom where we proceeded to get on another tram journey down Des Veoux Road to get to Western Market in Sheung Wan.

Mom bought some beautiful silk to dye at the market while Grandmother took a rest on a chair one of the salesman let her use and I wandered around touching things.

Next I had to buy a card to recharge my cellphone. I went to a Circle K with the card I had used before. It was a long process of trail and error until the really nice guy working there finally helped me find the right card. I don't know what I would have done if he hadn't been willing to spend so much time helping me.

We wandered around Sheung Wan until we found Cat Market. The market sold a lot of "katchie batchie" (not sure how to spell that) and we only saw one cat while we were there. But it was worth seeing and we unexpectedly ran into a small temple.

Then we hopped back on the tram to take it down to the piers so we could ride the Star Ferry across the harbor and catch the subway back to the hotel. We got a bit lost underground in gigantic tunnels and malls until we finally stumbled upon the right station (East Tsim Sha Tsui). We stopped back at Lingnan to pick up a few things and take a quick rest. Then on our way back to the hotel we had to stop for some free dessert :-)
